Marvel’s Fantastic Four Movie Just Lost Its Director

Director Jon Watts’ involvement in the hugely successful Marvel’s Spider Man movies of recent years made Kevin Feige’s 2019 announcement that Watts would help the studios imminent Fantastic four movie more than a little logical. However, it now seems that the plans for Marvel’s First Family return to the big screen are in trouble.

Deadline reports that Jon Watts amicably walked away from the upcoming Fantastic four film out of a very understandable desire to take a well-deserved break from making superhero movies. In a public statement, Kevin Feige said he has worked with Watts for the past three years Spider Man movies was a pleasure and that the studio would love to work with him in the future.

“We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU, but understand and support his reasons for stepping away,” Feige said. “We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at a later date.”

Watts added that working with Marvel on his Spider Man movies “was an incredible and life-changing experience,” and it’s easy to see why he might want to step back from the franchise machine, if only to recharge his creative batteries. Since the following Fantastic four will be the main characters introduction to the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox – who previously held their movie rights – there’s no doubt Marvel is already in the process of finding another director. Currently the following Fantastic four has no expected release date.
