One AI raises $8 million to manage enterprise-specific NLP models – MovieUpdates

Whether driving translations to document summaries, companies are increasing their investments in natural language processing technologies (NLP). According to a survey by John Snow Labs and Gradient Flow in 2021, 60% of tech leaders said their NLP budgets have grown by at least 10% compared to 2020, while a third said spending has increased by more than 30%. have risen.

It is a highly competitive market. In addition to well-equipped startups such as OpenAI, Cohere, AI21 Labs and Hugging Face and tech giants such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon, there is a new crop of vendors building NLP services on top of open source AI models. But Yochai Levi is not discouraged. He is one of the co-founders of One AI, an NLP platform that emerged today from stealth with $8 million led by Ariel MaislosTech AvivCEO of Sentinel One Tomer Wiengarten, and other unnamed venture firms and angel investors.

“Although the market is growing rapidly, advanced NLP is still primarily used by expert researchers, major tech and governments,” Levi told MovieUpdates via email. “We believe the technology is approaching maturity, and after rebuilding NLP from scratch several times in the past, we decided it was time to produce it and make it available to any developer.”

Levi explains what he believes are the biggest challenges for the development of NLP. It is often difficult to assemble open source models, he says, because they have to be linked to the right domain as well as to the right task. For example, a text-generating model trained to classify medical records wouldn’t fit in an app designed to create ads. In addition, models must be constantly updated with new data, otherwise they will become “old”. An example: OpenAI’s GPT-3 answers the question “Who is the president of the US?” with the answer “Donald Trump” because it is trained on pre-2020 election data.

Levi believes the solution is a suite of NLP models trained for specific business use cases – in other words, One AI’s product. He teamed up with CEO Amit Ben, CPO Aviv Dror and CSO Asi Sheffer in 2021 to pursue the idea. Ben previously served as the head of AI at LogMeIn after the company acquired its second startup, Nanorep, an AI and chatbot vendor. Dror co-founded Nanorep and was a platform product manager at Wix. Sheffer, a former data scientist at Nanorep, was the chief data scientist at LogMeIn. As for Levi, he was the VP of online marketing at LivePerson and the head of marketing at WeWork.

One AI provides a set of models that can be pipelined and matched to process text via a single API call. Each model is selected and trained for its applicability to the enterprise, Levi said, and automatically matched by the platform to a client’s task and domain (for example, conversation digest, sales insights, topic detection and proofreading). One AI’s models can also be combined with open source and proprietary models to extend One AI’s capabilities.

The platform’s API accepts text, voice, and video input of various formats. One AI’s language studio allows users to experiment with the APIs and generate calls to use in code.

“With the maturation of Language AI technologies, it is finally time for machines to adapt to us”, Ben told MovieUpdates via email† “The adoption of language comprehension tools by the wider developer community is the way to get there.”

One AI touts its NLP service on several tiers, including a free tier that includes processing up to a million words per month. The stackable “growth layer” adds 100,000 words for $1.

The hurdle One AI will have to overcome is convincing customers that its services are more attractive than what is already out there. In April, OpenAI said tens of thousands of developers were using GPT-3 through its API to generate words for more than 300 apps. But with Fortune Business Insights pegging the NLP market at $16.53 billion in 2020, it could be argued that there is a large enough slice of the pie for new entrants.

Founder and Managing Partner of TehAviv added Yaron Samid: “Language is the most valuable untapped resource, beyond the reach of most products and companies. This applies to most industries and domains and results in negative outcomes that span everything from lost sales to lower levels of user engagement and loyalty to reputational damage. By unleashing Language AI, we can harness the power of this unstructured data and turn it into actionable information and insights.”

An AI says a portion of the proceeds from the seed round will be spent on expanding the 22-strong team, which includes 10 NLP data scientists.
