Slowing VC market in Latin America hides local strength – MovieUpdates

The Latin American startup market, once one of the hottest in the world, is cooling. But the delay is far from uniform; some countries survive the downturn much better than others, data shows.

A few weeks ago, this column took an early look at venture capital data on LatAm startups and their funders, noting that the region saw consecutive quarterly declines that had become more than just material. While the global pandemic accelerated growth in the e-commerce market, the COVID-19 period also led to huge gains in the region; and while the pandemic eased somewhat, so did e-commerce growth, and perhaps unsurprisingly, so did enterprise activity in Latin America.

But the photo is not unique. To really understand what’s going on, we need to go deeper than the regional perspective can afford.
